We designed, realized and tested WEB3R, an innovative web-based system for the 3D reconstruction of an object model from a stereo pair. The web application has been designed according to the MVC paradigm; it can be run under a learning and an expert mode. The application relies upon on a 3D reconstruction procedure realized on the server side as the business logic.
A qualifying point is the user interface implementing the view logic, which provides the user with full interactivity, for all the phases requiring refinements and/or backsteps during reconstruction. The experimental prototype, which realizes all steps in the MVC approach, as well as the full reconstruction procedure, is promising for the subsequent phases of the research.
As a matter of fact, the user is given an effective tool to remotely perform his/her own reconstructions, and fully control the flow of information, by eventually modifying the partial results.
Further work is in progress along these lines.
